Springfield “Trapdoor” Model 1873 Rifle With Bayonet c. 1870’s (Battle of the Little Bighorn)

This historic long arm rifle is a rare surviving relic from the era of the Battle of Little Bighorn fought against American Indians and the Spanish American War (1873-1892). This is a Springfield model 1873 “Trapdoor” rifle, which was the first standard-issue breech-loading rifle adopted by the United States Army. Completely original, this single shot rifle earned the “trapdoor” moniker from the method of loading it one bullet at a time from a hinged breechblock, which opened like a trapdoor. This attractive antique firearm is all original including its attendant 21-inch sword bayonet. Without the bayonet attached the rifle measures about 52 inches. Attached the long arm measures an outstanding 69 inches long. This is a formidable weapon from this important period in American and World history. Comes with a certificate that unconditionally guarantees the authenticity of this item.
