Spanish American War Era Sergeant's Officer Coat (Circa 1898)

This is an incredible Sergeant's Officer Coat surviving from the period of the Spanish American War fought in 1898. The visually stunning military apparel is a throwback to the uniform worn by Union Officers during the American Civil War fought some decades earlier. Tailored in dark blue wool with a heavily stitched lining, the coat is distinguished by all of its’ original buttons intact and gold fabric filigree that detail the front of the coat. The buttons are manufactured by Horstmann (historically famous for manufacturing military buttons during the 19th century) and bear the patriotic motif of the American Eagle. Five larger buttons appear on front with three smaller buttons on each of the sleeves. Three chevrons and a hollow diamond sewn on each sleeve further indicate that this coat belonged to a soldier with the rank of 1st Sergeant. These historic details greatly add to the significance of this rare Officer’s Coat. Comes with a certificate that unconditionally guarantees the authenticity of this item.
