Rare 1900's Western Union “Presentation” Stock Ticker Machine

This is an incredibly rare stock ticker machine that was presented by the CEO of Western Union many decades ago to the President of a major Wall Street financial services firm, adorned with a special “atomic” Western Union label that was attached for presentation on the base painted over in black. Manufactured by famous inventor Thomas Edison during the early 1900's this machine was originally leased from Western Union and used to report information on stock market transactions. Measuring about 13" high and 8" in diameter, its' intricate working mechanism is covered by its original glass dome that has a lead rim and rests on a heavy cast metal base. It would function by printing transaction details (stock symbol, number of shares, and transaction price) on the original 3/4" wide paper roll threaded through this machine. Before the development of the very first stock ticker at the New York Stock Exchange in 1867, "runners" would hand carry trades to member firms throughout the Wall Street area. Edison who began his career as a telegraph operator for Western Union spent his first years of inventive genius improving the printing telegraph and stock ticker where he received the first 40 of his more than 1,000 career patents. As a matter of fact, Edison’s first commercial success was the development of the "universal stock ticker" in 1876. While many versions of the stock ticker were developed, this machine often referred to as the "Western Union Self-Winding Ticker" was most successful as it was able to keep up with increasing trade volume. In the 1930's, after the development of the modern looking "black box" quote machine, many of these "ornate" tickers were used illicitly in the gambling trade or in the early reporting of news via radio before most were scraped during WWII or later destroyed by order of Western Union. As a result, this “Presentation” specimen is among the very few "museum quality" machines surviving today. Comes with a certificate that unconditionally guarantees the authenticity of this item.
