Pele is widely respected as the greatest soccer player to ever play the game. In his native Brazil, he is simply known as “The King” (O Rei). Pele won 3 World Cups with Brazil (1958,1962,1970) and at the age of 17 in 1958 was the youngest player ever to play a Cup Final. He scored 2 goals to win the World Cup against Sweden and became a legend, overnight. Pele scored more goals than any player in the history of the game, 1281 goals in 1363 games. Pele was the most recognized athlete in the world by 1970 and in 1975 decided to bring soccer to the United States. He took the New York Cosmos to heights never seen in North America. Playing in the newly built Giants Stadium, the Cosmos drew crowds reaching close to 80,000. The Cosmos won the 1977 NASL Championship and put soccer on the US map. The photograph measures 3.5 x 4.5.
