Original 1960 Summer Olympic Games Official USA Judges Patch

This is an original 1960 Summer Olympics official patch that was worn by the judges from the U.S.A. on their blazers. The white and blue patch has the words "USA OLYMPIC GAMES 1960" stitched in red and measures 2.5 x 3. The 1960 Summer Olympics, which were held in Rome Italy, marked the historic appearance of a young boxer, Cassius Clay, (Muhammad Ali), who in addition to capturing the light-heavyweight gold medal, would become one of the most important figures in boxing history. Another American sports hero in the making, track star Wilma Rudolph, also competed in these games, winning three gold medals in sprint events, despite being a former polio patient. Rudolph had also competed at the 1956 Summer Olympics, at the age of tender age of 16, where she won a bronze medal.
