Mark Pavelich 1980 "Miracle on Ice" Gold Championship Ring
|This amazing piece of jewelry is the original 1980 Olympic Hockey ring awarded to forward Mark Pavelich as a member of the 1980 Miracle on Ice USA Olympic Hockey team following their stunning victory of the Gold Medal in Lake Placid, New York. Widely considered the Greatest Moment in American sports history, the United States Olympic team’s victory over the heavily favored Soviet Hockey Team in the semi-final game dubbed “The Miracle on Ice,” by a score of 4-3, catapulted them into the gold medal round where they beat Finland for the "Gold" by the score 4-2. While each USA Olympic hockey team member received a gold medal as does every other Olympic event winner in public presentation ceremonies throughout the Games; the Olympic Hockey team was awarded these Championship Rings in a private ceremony representing the kinship of their monumental triumph as a team during the “Miracle” Olympics. As a result, some participants value their ring much more so than their Gold Medal. It is worth mentioning that the collection of Olympic teammate and goaltender Jim Craig is currently being offered for sale at a staggering price of $5.7 million dollars and that it does NOT include his ring. Pavelich’s ring is also accompanied by his personal letter that is signed by him which highlights this fact. He mentions in his letter that he had previously sold his gold medal for $260,000 but that this player ring is a more personal tribute recognizing the great victory by the U.S.A. Olympic Hockey Team. In his letter Pavelich also mentions his pride in having recorded two assists including one to his teammate Mike Eruzione’s game-winning goal. This gorgeous ring itself is a stunning 10K gold ring stamped “Balfour 10K,” on the interior band along with the scores and opponents in the earlier rounds of Olympic competition and a scripted “Miracle on Ice.” The size eleven and a half ring features five real diamonds set in a blue stone on the face, encircled by raised text reading “USA Olympic Hockey Gold Medalist.” The left shank bears the “Pavelich” name and his jersey number framing the logos of the Lake Placid Games. The right shank features hockey iconography, the year “1980,” and the final scores of the USSR semifinal and Finland final matches. This is undoubtedly, one of the few opportunities in history to acquire such a significant keepsake of a pivotal player from one of the most historic athletic and Olympic achievements in history. Comes with a certificate that unconditionally guarantees the authenticity of this item.
