Harry Truman World War II Folk Art Wine Stopper

During World War II it was not unusual for soldiers and Americans back home to handcraft patriotic artifacts that are now valued more as folk art as much as military collectibles. This hand-carved wine stopper is a particularly well done example surviving from the war era. Carved in great detail with caricature accuracy, the head carving of President Harry S. Truman sits atop the cork stopper measuring about 4.5 inches tall from the top of his head to the bottom of the cork and about 3 inches at its widest point measured from the tip of his nose to the back of his head. No effort was spared in carving and painting the likeness of this great American wartime President. Truman was sworn in as Vice President of the United States in January of 1945 under President Franklin Roosevelt. Less than three months later on April 12th he assumed the role as President of the United States when Roosevelt passed away. After ordering the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki on August 6th and 9th Truman is credited with making the decision which led to American victory in the Pacific. Comes with a certificate that unconditionally guarantees the authenticity of this item.
