Don Newcombe Original Brooklyn Dodgers Snapshot Photograph

Brooklyn Dodgers pitcher Don Newcombe poses with two fans in this original 3.5 X 6 black and white snapshot photograph taken during a spring training outing at “Dodgertown” in Vero Beach, Florida. Newcombe signed with the Dodgers in 1949 joining teammates Roy Campanella and Jackie Robinson to play on the first racially integrated major league baseball team. That same year, Newcombe won Rookie of the Year honors and became the first African American pitcher to start a World Series. And in 1956, the inaugural year of the Cy Young Award, Newcombe became the first pitcher to win the National League MVP and the Cy Young in the same season.
