Nicknamed "Boomer", Wells was the star pitcher of the 1998 New York Yankees,a team which won a remarkable 125 games and lost 50, to set a Major league record. On May 17th 1998 David Wells pitched a perfect game at Yankee Stadium, only the second in team history after Don Larsen's perfect game in the 1956 World Series. Ironically, David Wells and Don Larsen attended the same high school in San Diego.
