Bobby Jones Signed 1933 Augusta National Golf Club Grand Opening Cachet
|Golfing legend Bobby Jones, considered by most to be the greatest golfer ever, has autographed this historic 1933 first day cover postal envelope from the opening of the famed Augusta National Golf Club, a course of his design and host to professional golf’s most famous Masters Tournament which he co-founded. Jones, signed with his beautiful full signature “Robert T. Jones, Jr.” in black fountain pen on the envelope handsomely decorated to commemorate the course opening with artwork that pictures Jones referring to Augusta as “Robert T. (Bobby) Jones Course,” “Opening Jan. 13, 1933. Augusta, Ga.” and postmarked from Augusta for the occasion celebrated that day. The 6.5 X 3.625 envelope was mailed to an addressee in Louisiana. This is one of the finest autographs that we have encountered from this revered golf legend and comes in a custom lucite holder that certifies the authenticity of his signature confirming its high grade classified in the holder as “Mint 9” by PSA/DNA, a major certification service in the sports collecting field. Among his many feats, Jones accomplished what many felt impossible, winning all four majors in the same year, 1930, (the U.S. and British Opens and their respective Amateur Championship events) only to retire immediately afterwards. Jones did however participate in the Masters Tournament from its’ inception 1934 until 1948. Bobby Jones is not only a legend for the championships he won, the spectacular golf course he designed and the renowned tournament he helped to create, but he was also a true renaissance man - a scholar, family man, teacher, competitor, and above all, a gentleman who bore his "riches" with humility and grace. Comes with a certificate that unconditionally guarantees the authenticity of this item.
